Sunday was the second race of the Cape Winter Trail Series at Tygerberg Nature Reserve...not my favourite course but surely the one with the most spectacular views! This is not a very technical course but very hilly.
It was a perfect morning and the CapeAutoCentre Triathlon team turned up in masses!! There was a great vibe between the team members which led to great camaraderie and racing!
We started with a steep hill, the pace was fast but I tried to pace my race as I knew it was a hard course.
I few girls got ahead of me on the first hill but it didn't bother me. I ran a consistent pace and managed to catch up to them.
I did the Burger mountain bike race the day before, my legs were heavy on the hills but I felt strong on the straights and downhills. I made up some places before the second long and steep climb.
When I got to the top my legs was so tired. I had about 5km to go (with the last 2km being another long climb). I tried to forget about my legs and focused on the finish line. I caught up to team mate Manus and we ran the last 4km together.
The last climb was tough on my "non-existent" legs, but I knew I had a bit of a gap to the next lady so I just eased to the finish line.
I finished in 5th place overall of the Ladies and 4th in the Open Ladies.
Thanks to Mobii, 32GI, Linebreak compression, Glider eyewear and CapeAutoCentre Triathlon Team!
